چکیده

Introduction and Background: Ceramics are inorganic, nonmetallic materials, such as alumina, beryllia, or glassceramic, whose final characteristics are produced by subjection to high temperatures. Nanomaterials is a rapidly growing area of ceramics [1-3] and can be classified into the following categories: Nano-particles submicron or ultra micron size particles; Nano-fibers – nanometer (nm) size material with a large aspect ratio (length/diameter); Nano-films nano-grained thin-films; Nano-crystalline alloys alloys having grain sizes of 1 to 50 nm; Nano-composite composite materials which utilize nano-scale reinforcements of one type of material inside a different matrix material; Nano-crystalline solids polycrystals 1-10 nm in size such that ¡Ý 50% of the solid consists of inherent interface between crystals of different orientation; and Nano-structures – bulk intact structures with nano-scale features such as pores, fibers and channels.

Cold Sintering Process: New sintering technique for fabrication of nano-structured ceramics below 300 °C - A review

Due to the conventional understanding of sintering phenomenon in ceramic materials, considering two words of “cold” and “sintering” together may arise a doubt to a ceramic engineer since the usual sintering process has been accompanied by a heating regime at elevated temperatures. Recently, a new technique called Cold Sintering Process (CSP) has been introduced and developed as an ultra-low tem...

Advanced Ceramics from Preceramic Polymers Modified at the Nano-Scale: A Review

Preceramic polymers, i.e., polymers that are converted into ceramics upon heat treatment, have been successfully used for almost 40 years to give advanced ceramics, especially belonging to the ternary SiCO and SiCN systems or to the quaternary SiBCN system. One of their main advantages is the possibility of combining the shaping and synthesis of ceramics: components can be shaped at the precurs...

Superelastic metal microsprings as fluidic sensors and actuators.

Superelastic metal microsprings fabricated by deterministic rolling of nanomembranes have been anisotropic-strain-engineered via glancing angle deposition. The advantageous applications of metal microsprings in liquid flow rate sensors and chemical-stimulated actuators due to their reliable superelasticity are demonstrated. Theoretical calculation of microspring elongation as a function of flow...

Couple Stress Effect on Micro/Nanocantilever-based Capacitive Gas Sensor

Micro/nanocantilevers have been employed as sensors in many applications including chemical and biosensing. Due to their high sensitivity and potential for scalability, miniature sensing systems are in wide use and will likely become more prevalent in micro/nano-electromechanical systems (M-NEMSs). This paper is mainly focused on the use of sensing systems that employ micro/nano-size cantilever...
